Easingwold is the most southerly of Hambleton's Market Towns, and is a perfect introduction to "Herriot Country".

This is our local market town.

Easingwold once stood in the middle of the Norman hunting preserve of the Forest of Galtres. The forest has long since gone but the distinctive name is still used in the town. Only 7 miles north of Village Farm, Easingwold was the first staging post on the road north and enjoyed great prosperity in the coaching era, boasting some 26 public houses and inns.

Free parking, within easy walking distance of the delightful Market Square, where the weekly Friday outdoor market is held. The Square is surrounded by Georgian buildings hidden away behind the main road. The town was granted a charter to hold a market every Friday and in addition to wandering among market stalls, you can enjoy browsing through Easingwold's numerous antique and speciality shops.

Before you leave indulge in a wonderful coffee and try the food at Tea Hee's - a visit to Easingwold is not complete without it.

To the east of Easingwold the land rises to the Howardian Hills, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are many attractive and charming villages to be discovered including Coxwold, the home to Shandy Hall, and Kilburn, the home of the 'Mouseman' Visitor Centre. Kilburn is also the home of the White Horse of Kilburn, carved out of the hillside above Kilburn it is visible for miles. 314ft long and 228ft high, the horse was the work of the local schoolmaster in 1857.
